Northside School Update
According to Newsday the 10yr old girl who passed away this past weekend died from influenza. Yes, the flu. The Nassau County Helth Dept beleives it was one of two particular Influenza A strains, but are waiting for New York State labs to confirm. If they are right, both strains are ones that the current flu vaccine protect people from. She is the first pediatric death from the flu since they started recording this in 2004 in Nassau County. I’ve heard other tidbits of information but since they are all second hand I will not repeat them because, well becasue I just won’t repeat stuff that I don’t know is true.
Our hearts go out to her family and friends.
There was a flu death in Boston last week as well. Tragic as he was supposed to get a flu shot but lost the permission slip.
When I was working in town I would volunteer to help at the senior center getting the seniors their flu shot. I highly recommend it if you can do it in your own town.
